The MIC Technical Committee, along with the Steering and Education & Outreach Committees, is one of three governing committees for MIC: Moving Image Collections, a collaboration of the Association of Moving Image Archivists and the Library of Congress. A Project Coordinator at the Library of Congress (TBA) will coordinate the work of LC, AMIA, and the three committees.
The Technical Committee provides technical oversight and some implementation for MIC's architecture, database and dynamic functionalities. The Technical Committee can request ad hoc or standing subcommittees for any activities and provide oversight rather than implementation for many tasks. The Technical Committee also provides oversight and guidance for the technical developers—Rutgers University Libraries, Georgia Tech Interactive Media Technology Center and the University of Washington. The Technical Committee will include a representative from LC, as the host site, and at least two representatives from Phase I participants.
The Technical Committee:
o Develops and revises the Organization Directory database. Develops and revises the core semantic registry for the union catalog.
o Evaluates, approves and creates any new XMS schemas for new metadata standards
o Develops application profiles for existing metadata standards
o Oversees creation and administration the ingest, cataloging and export facilities
o Participates in the annual site visit evaluation of the host site
o Evaluates the functionality of each component of MIC in turn and, with the host site, evaluates new technologies for replacement or enhancement of MIC
o
Participates, with the host site, in the hiring and general oversight of contract
staff to develop components of MIC
o Provides technical content and oversight for technical content for the Education, Research and Outreach sections of the web site.
