MICUC023 Type Type Broad physical or digital manifestation of the work, such as film, video, digital file. langstring variable Y Y N Currently, no identified map to MARC. Candidate for elimination if other schemas supported do not map. Dublin Core specifies "moving image" and MPEG-7 specifies audiovisual or video as broad type. These may be globally assigned when displaying metadata in reference schema.
MICUC024 CopyType Copy Type Definition assigned by an archive to copies of a resource. Copies are identical in intellectual content but frequently differ in physical format. Examples include: preservation master, reference copy, use copy, etc. langstring variable Y N N Use if the organization's records provide copy-level information, with physical information relevant to each copy. No explicit MARC map since this information is generally indivisible from the carrier field. Candidate for elimination if other schemas do not map. MIC will develop a controlled vocabulary for this element in Phase II.
MICUC025 CarrierType Carrier

The gauge/width/diameter of a physical moving image medium. Include, for films, the gauge, film base and film generation. For video, includes the tape dimensions. Examples:

35 mm safety print.

1/2 in.

12 in.

langstring variable Y Y Y Use if the organzation's records provide copy-level information, even if only for the first or master copy.
MICUC026 CarrierExtent Carrier Extent

The number/extent of the physical carrier. May be quantity, length or a combination. In MARC/AARC2/AMIM-this data element is expressed as the number of units + a "specific material designation". May include duration and length. Examples:

2 reels of three

3 reels of 3 (inc.) (10 min.) (500 ft.)

2103 rolls in 210 cans (ca 5000 ft.)

langstring variable Y N N Use if the organization's records provide copy-level information, even if only provided for the first or master copy.
MICUC027 CarrierNote Carrier Physical attributes of a carrier where type, size, format, and extent of carrier cannot be distinguished in a machine-readable manner langstring variable Y N N Organizations may elect to map to this data element for data elements providing useful carrier information that do not map elsewhere or for secondary carrier types documented in a reproduction note.
MICUC028 PhysicalChar Physical characteristics Physical characteristics of the title, including color, sound, presentation, generation and base. Digital file characteristics include file size, data rate, and frames per second langstring variable Y N N
MICUC029 MediaSystem Media System or Standard

The system or standard used to generate and playback the item--generally used for video or digital video resources. Examples:

PAL

SECAM

NTSC

RealMedia

WindowsMedia

langstring variable Y N N Use if this information is provided in a separate data element. Normalize to MPEG-7 SystemCS if possible

MPEG-2

MPEG-4

MJPEG

H261

langstring variable Y N N Normalize to MPEG7 VisualCoding CS if possible
